First of all, let us take a second to welcome you on Deel- we are glad to have you on board.
If you prefer watching a video, here it is:
The first step- sign up on Deel
Signing up on Deel is easy and takes just a few steps. You should fill in your basic information and select the option to get paid by clients as a contractor (individual or entity). In case you accidentally sign up as a client, you can switch to the contractor profile from your account settings. If you need a bit more help, take a look at our sign up tutorial.
Deel account verification
Deel works directly with banks and your favorite payment providers, and because of that, we need to perform KYC (Know Your Customer) verification. It's a process where we verify the identity of a user and mitigate the potential risks of illegal intentions.
Signing your Deel contract
Your client will most likely send you an already made Deel contract to sign. Review the details and sign it with your digital signature directly on Deel. If you are creating the contract yourself, these tutorials can help you do that.
How each Deel contract works:
If you have a fixed contract, you will get paid in payment cycles you and the client agreed (weekly, bi-weekly, every other week or monthly). The payment cycle and pay date are also agreed upon in the contract.
Pay as you go contract
If you have a pay as you go contract, you will need to submit your hours before your client can issue the payment. You can also use adjust payment amount to add a bonus, expense, etc. for each payment. Your client can approve the hours, add a bonus as well and update hours by CSV upload (if applicable). Make sure to submit hours before the payment due date, so they can be included in the respective payment cycle. If "Only the client can submit work" option is enabled, you will not be able to submit work.
If you have a milestone contract, you and your client can break down the project into milestones and assign a payment amount to each of them. When a milestone is approved, the payment can be processed for it.
Withdrawing from your Deel balance
Your balance will be available on your payday (based on the contract). Once you request a withdrawal, it will take 1-3 business days for the funds to clear and appear on your account (this depends on the payment method you chose). To save time, you can add your withdrawal method from the account settings beforehand. You can also add it when you withdraw money for the first time.
You can set automatic withdrawal to fast-track the process. Go to User Settings > General and use the slider to enable automatic withdrawal. Your balance will automatically clear every time a new balance is available.
Receiving money in local currencies
Deel has multiple currency wallets. You can withdraw funds in 120+ different currencies. Check if your local currency is supported the next time you withdraw. Thanks to our payment processing partners, we can process a local payout with minimal transaction costs.
A few days before the payment is due, you will see a button Withdraw Early on your contract page. When you click on it, you will get paid instantly, even on weekends and holidays. This feature is currently not available for all users, but we are working on expanding it to all of you.
Filling in tax forms (W-9 and W-8BEN(E))
If you work with clients from the US, you will be asked to fill in a W-9 Form (if you are a US citizen) or a W-8BEN(E) Form (if you are a non-US citizen).
Deel compliance documents collection
When clients create contracts, they can request the contractor to submit compliance documentation as per their country's regulations. Each contractor will then be notified about the request and asked to upload the documents.
