This guide explains how clients can create and manage equity grants, either during the contract creation process or to an existing worker profile.
You can easily track and manage equity data through Deel HR and see your employee's total compensation all in one place. Your employees will also have convenient access to their Equity details via Deel's platform.
Deel's Equity Management Tracking also allows you to create custom Equity Types and Grant Types that can be tracked in Deel.

How to create an Equity Grant for an existing employee
✅ Step 1 – Enter your worker's account profile page
Go to People. Select an Employee's Name to access their Profile
✅ Step 2 – Select Equity
Scroll down to select Equity from the right-side menu
✅ Step 3 – Select Add Equity Offer
Select Add Equity Offer to create a new Equity Package for the employee
✅ Step 4 – Enter Grant Details
Choose a Grant Name and Equity Type

Optional: Manage Equity Fields
Deel will include the commonly used equity options NSO, ISO, and RSU on your list of Equity Types by default.
- Non-advantaged stock options (NSO)
- Tax advantaged stock options (ISO)
- Restricted stock units (RSU)
Equity Types are fully customizable, however, so you can create and track the Equity Types that are best applicable to your, organization, locale, and needs.
To edit the options available for Equity Type and Grant Type (Optional), Select Manage Equity Fields
✅ Step 5 – Enter Vesting Information
You can manually enter Vesting Information or use the Auto Complete menu to select a Template of pre-set options.
Optional: Manage Auto Complete
Select Manage Auto Complete to access the menu
If you have templates available, you can select an option from the Auto Complete Dropdown menu.
Select Manage from the dropdown menu to edit the Auto Complete Options available. Under Manage, you will have the following options:
- Add New List Item
- Edit Existing Item (If present)
- Delete Existing Item (If present)
If you select Add New, you will be prompted to enter Vesting Information for a new template. Select Add New at the bottom to create a new item in the list.
If you do not have any templates yet, you can select Create New Template to generate one.

Once you have entered all of the Grant Details, select Continue to proceed.
✅ Step 6 – Enter Additional Information (Optional)
Include any additional details that you'd like to convey about the Equity Grant.
Click to Browse or Drag & Drop to attach additional documentation.
✅ Step 7 – Review the Equity Grant details
Confirm the information is correct and click Add Equity to create the equity grant.
You will receive confirmation that the Equity has been added successfully.
Employees will receive an email notice informing them of the Equity Grant Offer. Employees can select to review grant details in Deel.
Adding Equity During Contract Creation
There is a slightly different process if you are adding an equity grant for an EOR employee or a non-EOR employee or contractor.
Adding Equity for EOR employees
✅ Step 1 – Go to Contract Extras
During the Extras Step of Contract Creation, scroll down to the EOR Equity Service section.
✅ Step 2 – Select Add to create an Equity Grant 
✅ Step 3 – Review the note and select Continue to proceed

✅ Step 4 – Speak to our equity team (recommended)
Select Add Equity Offer to create an Equity Grant in Deel without consulting Deel's equity team.
Select Speak to Our Experts to contact our Deel Equity Team. Our Team of experts will offer advice and aid you in creating Equity Grants that will fully comply with the laws and regulations of your home country as well as an EOR's country of residence.
If the EOR worker does not already have Stock Options in Deel, you will be required to speak with our Deel Equity Team in order to continue.
✅ Step 5 – Enter Grant Information
✅ Step 6 – Enter Vesting Information
If you already have Templates crated for Vesting Information, you can select a template to apply them from the Auto Complete Menu.
✅ Step 7 – Enter Additional Information (Optional)
You will receive confirmation that the Equity Grant has ben added successfully. Select Ok to return and complete Contract Creation.
Adding Equity for Non-EOR employees and contractors
These steps apply to non-EOR worker types including Global Payroll Direct Employee Payroll, Direct Employe, and Non-Shield Independent Contractors.

✅ Step 1 – Select Add Equity
During the Contract Extras Step of the contract creation process, select Add in the equity section to create an equity grant.

✅ Step 3 – Enter Vesting Information
If you already have Templates crated for Vesting Information, you can select a template to apply them from the Auto Complete Menu.
✅ Step 4 – Enter Additional Information (optional)
Then click Continue.
You will receive confirmation that the Equity Grant has ben added successfully.
Manage Equity Grants During Contract Creation
These steps apply to non-EOR worker types including Global Payroll Direct Employee Payroll, Direct Employe, and Non-Shield Independent Contractors.

Editing an Equity Grant
Under the Contracts Extra step of Contract Creation, select the Equity Grant's Name to Edit.
On the Review Screen, Select Edit to update the editable sections.
Deleting an Equity Grant
Under the Contracts Extra step of Contract Creation, select the Trash Bin Icon to Delete an Equity Grant
You can also select Delete Equity from the Review Details screen to remove the grant from the contract.
Select the Equity Grant's name to Edit.
Select Delete to confirm removal
FAQ
[ACCORDION] Can I add equity for an Independent Contractor on Deel Shield?
No, we are unable to add equity for Independent Contractors covered by Deel Shied. All other independent Contractors can engage with stock options in Deel via Equity.
[ACCORDION] Can EOR workers access existing stock options via Deel Equity Management?
If a client previously used the stock options feature for EOR workers, they will be able to use the new equity management feature for these workers moving forward.
Clients with existing EOR grants won't need to take action to migrate them into the new system.
Deel will migrate all existing stock options to our new equity management feature automatically.
[ACCORDION] Am I required to speak with the Deel Equity Team if I want to add equity for an EOR worker?
If the EOR worker does not already have Stock Options in Deel, you will be required to speak with our Deel Equity Team in order to continue.

When you select to Add an Equity Offer, you will be prompted to enter Grant Details.
If you the dropdown menu is not populated, Select Manage Equity Fields.
You can create the options that will populate each menu by selecting Add Item.

If you cannot access the ‘Manage Equity Fields’ from Contract Creation screen, please navigate to the Equity section of the Employee's Profile to access it there instead. From the People Tab, select an employee's name. Next, scroll down to select Equity from the menu on the right.
