Competencies are the necessary behaviours, skills, values, or knowledge that are expected of an employee in a given role and level. They can define expectations, set performance standards, and guide professional development.
This article explains how to add competencies and link them to career paths on Deel.
Before you begin
- Must be a Deel Engage admin.
- Must have Deel Engage enabled on organization.
- Must have Career turned on under Deel Engage.
- Must have built a career path, if this isn't done yet, please see: How to Build a Career Path on Deel.
After building a career path, the next step is to create competencies and link them.
Step 1. How to create competencies
To create competencies:
1. Go to Engage > Career and click Competencies.
2. On the competencies page, click Create competency.
3. In the Create competency modal, customize your details.
The name and the description of a competency help build expectations of what exactly it means within an organization. Each competency can be assigned to one or more categories, such as Product, Design, R&D, etc.
Skill level details can also be added to further explain what exactly is expected for each job level within a path and a framework. It is expected that less requirements are defined for a junior position compared to more senior positions where additional skill sets will be needed.
4. Use Create to complete this process.
Step 2. How to link competencies
To link competencies:
1. Select a path and click Add competency.
2. In the Add competency modal, select competencies and click Add.
After adding a competency, you may add an expectation.
To add expectation:
1. Click Add expectation to add an expectation.
Choose for each level a predefined explanation of the expectation (that was set up during competencies creation) or they can add it manually.
2. Click Save to complete the process.
