You will also be enrolled in the NEST workplace pension scheme. This is an employee and employer contribution plan, that you may opt-out of at any time.
Retirement
Deel has partnered with NEST to bring you this workplace pension scheme. You'll have access to the NEST web platform. Once enrolled in the plan NEST puts your money to work in its standard pension fund, however, if you wish to choose how your money is used NEST has a variety of different options.
When am I enrolled in Nest?
- For your convenience, you'll get automatically enrolled in this workplace pension plan after we complete your first payroll.
- Enrollments occur on the 26th of each month, for employees who start between the 1st and 15th of that same month. If you start after the 15th, you will be enrolled on the 26th of the following month. (ie, if you start on October 20th, you will be enrolled on November 26th).
- If you wish to opt-out of the workplace pension you must do this through the Nest portal within 1 month of your enrolment date.
When should I receive documentation from Nest that I am enrolled?
- You will receive an email from Nest with documentation of your enrollment within 10 working days of your first salary payment
- If the email from NEST was not received at all but the contribution was deducted from your salary, please contact Nest directly via their help section on their webpage here
- In addition to your email, you will receive a letter by post within 2 weeks from when you receive your first salary payment, with login details.
When can I see my contributions?
- Your employee portal will generally be updated within 5 - 7 working days from the 22nd of the month following the relevant pay cycle
- ie, For November contributions, would be shown on 27th of December
General Questions
- If you currently have another provider, we won't be able to make contributions to their scheme. You can either retain both separately until retirement or transfer your old pension pot to NEST. For details on how to do this, check here.

Austria
Health insurance
You and your family are entitled to statutory health care. Children will receive health insurance until the age of 18 or 27 if they continue studying.
What is covered?
Preventive examinations: preventive medical examinations for early detection of diseases. Special programs exist for young persons up to the age of 19 years, as well as annual checks for early detection of cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Spa treatments and rehabilitation measures for preventing the medical condition from deteriorating are also covered by the sickness insurance.
You as your dependents (partner and children) are entitled to treatment by general practitioners, specialists and dentists. You may also be entitled to medicines and medical equipment, if this is medically indicated.
At-home nursing care is also provided and paid for by the sickness insurance fund. It covers certain types of medical treatment provided by registered nurses (e.g. administering injections, special nutrition, dressing wounds, etc.). If the nature of the illness so requires, they are entitled to treatment in a hospital (without time limit) under the standard-rate category.
Public Pension Insurance
You will be entitled to an old-age pension (Altersrente) when reaching the age of 60 (women) or 65 (men). The pensionable age for women will be gradually increased to that for men (i.e. to 65) between 2024 and 2033.
Amount of pension: the amount of old-age pension is calculated taking into account the age and length of insurance of each person. For persons below the age of 50 at the beginning of 2005 and for insurance periods after January 2005 a system of defined-benefit pension accounts based on current-income financing (“pay-as-you-go”) is in force. Under this system, pension entitlements acquired are calculated each year. The basis for calculation is the average income in a calendar year, subject to a ceiling. For each calendar year, 1.78% of this amount is credited to the pension account.
Unemployment Insurance
Is mandatory for the employer and employee to contribute to unemployment insurance. You will be entitled to an unemployment benefit (Arbeitslosengeld) if you have been covered by unemployment insurance for at least 52 weeks during the last 24 months. Or 26 weeks within the last 12 months if the person your age is below 25 years.
Workers Compensation Insurance
The accident insurance scheme covers you while you are at work or traveling to or from work. Cover includes measures to prevent accidents as well as benefits in the event of injury.
All persons employed are subject to compulsory accident insurance.
If an accident occurs, you will receive the cash payments to which you will be entitled in the event of incapacity for work due to illness (continued payment of wages or sickness cash benefit).
However, if disability pension would be higher, the difference is made up. In case of being at the hospital or a special clinic, you will be entitled to a daily benefit. For example family allowance or daily allowance, will vary depending on the family circumstances. In such cases payment of the disability pension is suspended.
Pension Fund: unlike the public pension, your employer, Deel, is obliged to contribute 1.53% of the gross salary to a private pension for the employee. There are different providers, Deel's provider is VBV-Vorsorgekasse.
FAQ's About VBV-Vorsorgekasse Pension Fund
- What is the aim of the pension fund and how does it work? From the second month of employment onwards, your severance payment entitlements will grow: then contributions amounting to 1.53% of your monthly salary (including special payments) will continuously flow into a pension account. This is paid for by the employer. This transfers the contributions to the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK), which then forwards them to the selected pension fund, which is responsible for the administration and assessment of the contributions.
- Can each employee choose their pension fund? No, the principle applies: "One employer - one pension fund". Therefore, only the employer concludes the "membership contract" with the pension fund, which then applies to all employees of the company. This is also the case if the company changes to another pension fund valid for all employees.
- Enrollment process you are automatically enrolled by the employer into their pension and will start contributing in the second month of employment.
