Connecting the Deel Plugin for Slack lets people give kudos, or give and request instant feedback, without leaving the conversation. It's an add-on for convenience, not a requirement, since Kudos and Instant feedback already work fully inside Deel. Once it's connected, admins can manage connection status, user access, unmatched accounts, and plugin settings from Deel.
To find the plugin, go to Apps & Automation → Slack/Teams Plugin in the left-side navigation menu, or use this link.
Before you begin
You must be:
- A Slack workspace admin with the admin privileges needed to connect and authorize the app
Connect the plugin and activate Kudos and Instant feedback
Important: The steps you need to take depend on whether you already have the Deel Plugin for Slack installed. Open the section below that matches your situation.
You've already connected the Deel Plugin for Slack
- Go to Apps & Automation → Slack/Teams Plugin in the left-side navigation menu, or use this link.
- Find the newly added Engage modules available to activate: Kudos and Instant feedback.
- Click Activate next to Kudos.
- In the pop-up window, review what Kudos offers: recognize teammates and highlight great work, share kudos directly in Slack channels, and get notified when new kudos are sent.
- Click Activate again to confirm.
- If prompted, allow the Deel app to access your workspace. Select your workspace, review the permissions Deel is requesting, and click Allow.
- Check that Kudos shows an Activated status.
- Repeat the same activation steps for Instant feedback. You'll see an Activated status once it's done.
You're migrating from the legacy Engage plugins
Note: We've started migrating the legacy Engage Slack plugins over to the new Deel Plugin, and Kudos is the first feature to make that move. More Engage functionalities will follow over time.
In the meantime, you can keep using the parts of your legacy integration that haven't migrated yet, like Announcements and Onboarding, without any disruption. Since those features haven't moved to the new Deel Plugin, their data stays in Slack rather than syncing back to Deel.
Time off already made the move ahead of Kudos. If you're already running Time off through the new Deel Plugin, follow the steps in You've already connected the Deel Plugin for Slack above.
If you haven't migrated any of the legacy plugins, follow these steps:
- Reach out to your Deel contact so our engineering team can enable access to the new Deel Plugin for your organization.
- Once you get confirmation, go to Apps & Automation → Slack/Teams Plugin in the left-side navigation menu, or use this link.
- Click Connect Slack.
- Select your workspace, review the permissions, and click Allow.
- After you connect, turn on individual features one at a time. You don't need to activate everything at once.
- Start with Kudos. Click Activate.
Note: Deel won't migrate your existing Kudos data into the Deel app or the Deel Plugin. New data starts flowing to Engage only after you activate Kudos through the new Deel Plugin.
You're setting up the Slack plugin for the first time
- Go to Apps & Automation → Slack/Teams Plugin in the left-side navigation menu, or use this link.
- On the page introducing the Slack & Teams Plugin, click Explore. This is where you connect Slack or Teams and later turn on specific features.
- Click Connect Slack.
- On the Slack integration page (via the app store), click Connect.
- Allow the Deel app to access your workspace. Select your workspace, review the permissions Deel is requesting, and click Allow.
- Your Slack connection is complete. Now you can turn on the features you want, starting with Kudos.
- Click Activate next to Kudos.
- In the window that opens, review what Kudos offers: recognize teammates and highlight great work, share kudos directly in Slack channels, and get notified when new kudos are sent.
- Click Activate again to confirm.
- Check that Kudos shows an Activated status.
- Repeat the same activation steps for Instant feedback. You'll see an Activated status once it's done.
Note: The Deel Plugin for Slack and Teams is a single, unified integration. Once you're connected, new features (including future Engage additions) show up here automatically, with no separate installs or added cost.
After you activate Kudos, choose the Slack channel that kudos post to in Kudos settings.
How to manage the plugin once connected
Plugin overview
The top of the page shows the connection status (for example, Connected). Three actions sit in this section: Open in Slack, Settings, and Manage users.
Fix unmatched accounts
If Deel can't match a Slack account to a registered worker's Deel email, you'll see this banner: "Some of the Slack accounts couldn't be matched." Those workers won't receive Slack notifications until their emails are matched.
- Click View settings in the banner. This opens the Match accounts page.
- Review the affected accounts, which are listed one by one.
- Resolve each match, or choose to ignore specific accounts.
Manage user access
Click Manage users to open a dedicated page with three tabs: Automations, Workers with access, and Workers without access. Each tab shows a count (for example, 40 workers with access, 24 without). Use this page to see who can use the plugin and to troubleshoot missing access.
The same unmatched-accounts warning banner appears here too: "Some of the Slack accounts couldn't be matched." It shows the affected count (for example, 14 out of 162 registered employees) and a View settings button to resolve it.
Below the banner, admins get a search bar, a filter icon, and a Contract type dropdown to narrow the list. A Remove all button lets you bulk-revoke access for everyone currently shown. The table lists each worker with columns for Person, Location, People match, and Team.
For more on authorizing your workforce and linking identities across platforms, see How to Manage User Activation and People Match for Slack & Teams Plugins.
Plugin settings
Click Settings to open a page with two sections.
Slack settings
- People Match: Shows which Deel-managed team members are linked to a Slack profile, and flags any unmatched accounts.
- User provisioning: Click Enable to automatically create Slack accounts for new hires and remove access when someone leaves.
- Slack Notifications: Opens a note explaining that each team member now manages their own Slack notification preferences under Account Settings → Notification Settings, rather than an admin setting this centrally.
- Deel bot for Slack: Configure bot notifications and settings directly inside your Slack workspace.
Plugins
Below Slack settings, a Plugins panel lists every module that can run inside Slack.
- Workers with access: Opens the dedicated user management page with the three tabs described above.
- Approvals: Opens a dedicated settings page. Allow this so your team members can review approval requests directly from Slack. On the right, you'll find clarifications on notifications. Approval notifications are configured centrally and set at the feature level, not per Slack integration. Click Review notification configuration to configure notifications for each feature.
- List of available plugins: Each plugin shows its status (Active, or an Install/Activate button) and a short description. This mirrors the module cards on the main Plugin for Slack page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a cost associated with using the Slack Plugin?
No. The Slack & Teams Plugin is included with any Deel HR module for all active users. It's part of the core HR experience, so your teams can access HR workflows directly from tools like Slack or Teams, without adding another product or cost.
Are all Engage Slack plugins now under a single app?
Not yet, but that's the direction we're heading. Core HR workflows, like time off, approvals, data changes, and time tracking, already run through the single Slack & Teams Plugin. Engage functionality is migrating over one feature at a time. Kudos is the first to make that move, with check-ins (1 on 1s) to follow. Until a feature has migrated, it keeps running through the legacy integration, with its data staying in Slack rather than syncing back to Deel.
Is the Slack plugin secure?
Yes. The Slack & Teams Plugin is built with the same enterprise-grade compliance and security standards as the Deel platform. Role-based permissions, audit trails, and real-time sync ensure your data stays safe and compliant across 150+ countries.
Why should I use the plugin instead of logging into Deel directly?
The Deel Slack & Teams Plugin brings HR into one hub inside Slack and Teams, where work already happens. This means:
- Efficiency: Finish HR tasks in one place, without switching platforms.
- Speed: Requests and approvals are handled in minutes, directly in chat.
- Employee experience: HR feels as easy as sending a message, boosting adoption and engagement.
- Compliance: Every action syncs instantly with Deel, keeping records accurate, secure, and payroll-ready.
