Clients can manage employee payments directly through their own banking systems rather than through Deel if they prefer.
When clients pay salaries directly, they can request payment files that match the bank's requirements.
Once the payroll is approved, you'll be able to download all payments into a specific format.

How to Upload Bank Payment Template File
How It Works
Clients at any time can request from their Global Payroll entity settings a bank file template, even before payroll packages are approved.
After payroll is approved, the template can be downloaded with employee data included.
This is because the bank files contain the data required to pay employees and are built according to the template parameters.
Please note: Uploading a custom bank file via CSV upload may incur additional fees.
How to Upload a Bank Payment Template File
✅ Step 1 - Select Organization Settings
✅ Step 2 - Click View on the Entities panel
✅ Step 3 - Select the entity, and then click the Global Payroll tab
✅ Step 4 - Click Request new payment file
The saved payment file format card will show you all payment files currently requested, the date of the request, and the current status.
✅ Step 5 - Fill out the bank details and upload template
Your bank details must be included on the template you upload.
The options that appear in the dropdowns for bank name and bank rail are suggestions only; you can type in the correct bank name and bank rail that you need if it doesn't appear and click Add.
Click the box to confirm that your uploaded template has been provided by your bank and clearly shows the bank account details.
✅ Step 6 - Click Request
Deel will review the submitted payment template and respond within seven business days.
How to Download or Securely Transfer the Payment File
Clients who process their own payroll payments can either download their payment file manually or securely transfer it via SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol).
✅ Step 1 - Select the Payroll icon, followed by the Global Payroll tab
✅ Step 2 - Select the entity
Then click the payroll cycle you wish to access
✅ Step 3 - Click the Payment tab
✅ Step 4 - Click Net Salaries in the list of payments section
✅ Step 5 - Click pay directly
Make sure that the pay directly card is selected, then click Pay directly
✅ Step 6 - Select the bank file format and define the payment details
Clients must select an existing bank file format or request a new one. They can also update the payment execution date if needed.
✅ Step 7 - Choose how to send the file
Clients will be required to select how they want to send the file. They can choose between the following options:
- Send via SFTP connection – When selecting this option, clients will be required to choose SFTP connection.
- Download the payment file – Clicking this option will download the payment file.
✅ Step 7 - Click Download payment file
Then click continue, and again click the Download button at the bottom.
The entity payment details will be downloaded in the format that matches the bank template requirements.
Downloading a Test File
After Deel’s team maps and configures the client’s custom bank file template, the client can download a test file to verify that the format, structure, and data are correct.
This helps ensure that when payroll is actually run, payments will process correctly with their bank, avoiding costly or stressful errors.
Clients can download the test file by following these steps:
- Open the entity’s Global Payroll tab
- In the Saved Payment Files Format section, click Download test file for the desired document
- Enter the amount and payment execution date
- Click Download
The test file will only be available for download once the format has been configured and reviewed by Deel.
If there are any problems with the file format, clients can report them by clicking the three vertical dots next to the file and selecting Report an issue.
Clients will be asked to:
- Provide a description of the issue
- Add any error messages shared by the bank
- Upload the file in question
By clicking Report, the issue will be submitted to our team, who will review it and follow up within 3 business days.
