The App Access Requests feature, part of Access Management (powered by JumpCloud), allows workers to request app access via the Deel platform while organisations manage these requests and approval workflows. This ensures the right people get the right level of access, anytime, anywhere.

How App Access Requesting Works
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What Are the App Access Requests?
Part of the Deel Access Management product, this feature allows workers to request access to org-whitelisted third-party applications (like Google Workspace or Slack) directly through Deel. By integrating with your HR data, Deel ensures that requests are routed to the right people based on your company’s specific hierarchy.
You can fully customise the apps available for request or hierarchy lines, including, for example, the number of levels of approval.
This functionality includes:
- Self-Service Requests: Workers can request access from their Profile, in the Deel IT > Applications tab.
- Application management: Choose what applications you would like to show to workers as possible to request.
- Dynamic Approvals: Approval chains tied to Department or Manager structures.
- Centralised Governance: A single dashboard for IT and Org Admins to track and audit access.
- Audit Logging: Full history of who requested, approved, or denied access with timestamps.
How App Access Requesting Works
Requirements
To use App Access Approvals, you must have:
- An active subscription to our Access Management feature.
- The Deel IT paid version is enabled within your workspace.
- Administrative or Managerial permissions within the platform to review requests and manage apps.
Types of Users
The feature operates on a three-tier permission structure:
- Admins: Configure which apps are "requestable" and define the global approval policies.
- Managers: Review requests from their direct reports via their "For You" dashboard.
- Workers: Browse a catalog of company-approved apps and submit requests with a justification.
Once a request is approved, the system logs the event in the Approval Policies history for auditing and compliance.
Step-by-Step Setup
Enabling App Requests (Admins)
To make an application available for request, follow these steps:
Navigate to Access Management: From the main menu, go to the IT tab and select Access Management.
Identify Requestable Apps: In the Applications tab, you can see a Requestable column. A gray icon indicates the app is currently hidden from workers.
Configure the App: Click on a specific application (e.g., Slack or Google Workspace).
Toggle Access: Select the Access Requests tab within the app drawer, click Edit, and toggle Enable Access Requests.
Assign or Create a Policy: Select an existing policy or click Create approval policy to define a new workflow.
Requesting Access (Workers)
Access the IT Hub: Go to Workspace > Deel IT.
Browse Applications: Under the Applications tab, workers will see all Requestable apps.
Submit Request: Click Request > Application, select the app from the dropdown, and provide a justification.
4. Track Progress: Workers can view the real-time status of their request, including which approval level it is currently sitting at and who the specific Points of Contact (POCs) are.
Approving a Request (Managers/Admins)
Approvers have two main ways to manage incoming tasks:
Deel IT homepage: you'll see a task prompting you to review the access requests.
Access Management > Applications tab: On the top right corner, you'll have the option View access requests
Action: Click Review to see the worker's justification, then select Approve or Deny. Bulk actions are available via the checkboxes on the left side of the request list.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
[ACCORDION] Can I see a history of all approved or denied requests?
Yes. Admins can go to Access Management > View access requests to see a full audit log of all historical requests, who requested them, and who approved them.
[ACCORDION] Can I request an app on behalf of someone else?
Admins and Managers have the authority to request access for other users by selecting the specific worker's name in the "Request App Access" modal.
[ACCORDION] What happens if an app is marked as "Not Requestable"?
The app will not appear in the worker's Deelapplications catalog. Only apps explicitly enabled by an Admin can be requested by the general workforce.
[ACCORDION] How long does it take for the worker to get access after approval?
In most cases, provisioning is near-instant once the final approval is logged, depending on your SSO/SCIM configuration.
[ACCORDION] What happens if a Manager/Approver is out of the office?
You can configure substitute approvers within the Policy Information flow. You may also set the number of approval levels required and include group admins to ensure requests don't stall.
[ACCORDION] What is the maximum number of approval levels I can set?
You can configure multiple tiers (e.g., Manager -> IT Head) to match your company's internal security protocols.
[ACCORDION] What happens if my organisation doesn’t have Deel as the HRIS / doesn’t have a manager hierarchy outlined in the platform?
A new approval policy would have to be created in this case, in the Approval Policies screen, to specify who should be the approver for the requests. For more information, please see the How to Configure and Manage Approval Policies article.
