Calibration lets designated calibrators review, discuss, and adjust feedback scores before results are shared with employees. Weighting lets you prioritize what matters most by weighting questions and feedback types in the overall score. Both are optional and are configured while you set up feedback types.
Before you begin
You must be:
- An admin with access to Engage > Reviews
- Working in a review cycle with at least one feedback type enabled
- Using a form with at least one rating scale question, to weight questions
Set up calibration
Step 1 – Allow calibration
- Turn on Allow calibration to add a calibration configuration task.
- Confirm the prompt. When calibration is on, feedback cannot be shared immediately.
Step 2 – Choose a calibration type
- Select Final score calibration so calibrators adjust only a normalized overall score. The score is the average of all questions and feedback types and may be influenced by weights and scale. Question-level scores stay unchanged.
- Select Question calibration so calibrators adjust scores at the individual question level, in downward feedback only. The final score adjusts automatically after calibration.
- Select Total downward score calibration so calibrators adjust only the calculated downward feedback score. The final score is recalculated with the calibrated score and all other feedback types, so it may end up higher or lower than the calibrator's score.
Caution: Verify in your HRIS that all employees have the selected relationship assigned. An employee with a missing relationship does not get a calibrator.
Step 3 – Select calibrators
- Choose one or more roles from worker relationship roles or custom org structures.
Note: When multiple calibrators are assigned, all can edit scores. Score changes are anonymized but visible to other calibrators, and the most recent change is kept.
Step 4 – Lock sharing until calibration
- Turn on Lock sharing until calibration so results can be shared with employees only after the calibration deadline has passed.
- Turn the setting off to let managers share results before calibration is fully complete.
Set up weighting
Note: Weighting has two independent levers, Weighted questions and Weighted feedbacks. Both are optional and not enabled by default.
Step 1 – Weight feedback types
- Click Weighted feedbacks in the left sidebar and toggle on Enable weighted feedback types.
- Enter a percentage for each of the four feedback types. For example: downward feedback 50%, self review 10%, peer feedback 20%, upward feedback 20%.
- Correct the values until they sum to exactly 100%. The header turns red and shows the current total until you do.
Note: If you disable a feedback type after setting custom weights, the platform warns "Weights will be evenly adjusted". Confirming redistributes weights evenly. Edit the values in Weighted feedbacks for a specific split.
Step 2 – Control who sees feedback type weights
- Use the settings panel on the right. Admin access is locked on by default.
- Add managers so they can view the weighted combined score for their direct reports.
Tip: Turn this on for full scoring transparency for managers.
Step 3 – Weight questions
- Click Weighted questions to open the Weighting summary view. It shows all four feedback types, the number of rating questions in each, and each question's current weight.
- Click Edit weights and enter a percentage for each rating scale question. The percentages must sum to exactly 100% before you can save. For example, assign 20% and 80% to two questions.
- Click Save to commit, Cancel to discard, or Reset weights to return all questions to automatic (even) distribution.
Note: Only feedback types with at least one rating scale question are eligible. Types showing "No rating question" cannot be weighted until you add a rating question.
Step 4 – Control who sees question weights
- Use the settings panel on the right to control who sees scores influenced by question weights. Admin access is locked on by default.
- Add managers to let them see scores influenced by question weights.
Tip: Turn this on if managers are expected to explain scoring methodology to their reports.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use calibration and resubmission together?
No. The two features are mutually exclusive. Allowing changes after calibration starts would create inconsistencies for reviewees.
What happens when several calibrators edit the same score?
All calibrators can edit scores. Changes are anonymized but visible to other calibrators, and the most recent change is kept.
Are weights enabled by default?
No. Both Weighted questions and Weighted feedbacks are off by default.
Which feedback types can have weighted questions?
Only feedback types with at least one rating scale question. Add a rating question to a form that shows "No rating question".
Who can see weights by default?
Admin access is locked on by default for both feedback type weights and question weights. You can optionally add managers.
