This article explains how clients who have enabled Deel HR can initiate terminations or resignations for HR direct employees, EOR employees, and independent contractors.

The process of termination, commonly referred to as "offboarding", is different depending on the employment type.
Also, the EOR offboarding timeline will differ if it is a voluntary resignation or involuntary termination.

How to Terminate an HR Direct Employee
✅ Step 1 – Select the employee to be terminated
Select the People icon on the homepage, from the All People tab, click the employee's name to open the summary page.
✅ Step 2 – Click the three-dot actions menu and select Schedule Termination
If the employee being terminated is a manager, clients will be prompted to choose a new manager for their direct reports.
✅ Step 3 – Select the termination timeline
Choose the last day of work for the employee.
Depending on the worker type, the client will be responsible for notifying the termination to the employee.
✅ Step 4 – Explain the reasons for the termination
Clients must determine if the termination is voluntary or involuntary, and provide a reason.
Clients may add additional details as needed.
If the employee being terminated is a manager with direct reports, the client will be prompted to choose a new manager for those reports.
✅ Step 5 – Confirm final payments
Clients can also add or remove items like bonuses or expenses.
✅ Step 6 – Review the termination summary and click Finish
After the termination is scheduled, the employee will be able to see the termination details and contract end date on their home page.
How to Terminate an EOR Employee With Deel HR
✅ Step 1 – Select the employee to be terminated
Select the People icon on the homepage, from the All People tab, click the employee's name to open the summary page.
✅ Step 2 – Click the three-dot actions menu and select Schedule Termination
Click Next to proceed through the information pop-up windows, where they will learn the termination flow and process that Deel will carefully follow.

✅ Step 3 – Request to end contract
Clients must choose whether the offboarding is an employee resignation or a termination.
We won’t communicate with the employee until the termination details are finalized.

✅ Step 4 – Follow prompts to complete the contract termination request
If the employee is resigning, please provide a reason and any relevant details or explanation.
Resignation is the easiest offboarding method to approve and process and requires fewer steps.
If the client is terminating the direct employee, they must provide the reason for termination and include a detailed explanation.
Please include in the explanation specific examples and any warnings issued to the employee.
Supporting documents like attendance records, previous warnings, documentation, and correspondence can be uploaded.
✅ Step 5 – Select the desired end date
Clients can request the earliest possible contract end date, or at a specified future date.
The client confirmed the contract end date may differ from their desired end date due to local labour laws and Deel’s terms of service.
Payment in lieu of notice or working notice might apply, depending on the jurisdiction.
✅ Step 6 – Confirm used vacation days
We will provide the number of known paid vacation days used by the employee, according to our records.
Please confirm the number of paid vacation/PTO days taken by the employee in the current year.
Optional severance payment can also be added.
✅ Step 7 – Review termination request summary
Confirm the termination request details and click Confirm And Send.
We'll review the request within two business days and contact the client with the next steps.
We will not notify the employee until we've finalized the termination details. Please do not contact the employee at all.

How to Terminate a Contractor With Deel HR
✅ Step 1 – Select the contractor to be terminated
Select the People icon on the home page, from the All People tab, click the employee's name to open the summary page.
✅ Step 2 – Click Schedule Termination to start the offboarding process
✅ Step 3 – Provide reasons and select the desired end date
The client must provide a reason for ending the contractor's contract and may include additional details.
The client's reason and explanation will not be shared with the contractor.
The client can choose to end the contract as soon as possible or on a specified date.
✅ Step 4 – Confirm final payments
Use the toggle to opt in or out of the current month's payment cycle as a final payment.
Clients can also add or remove items like bonuses or expenses.
Clients may see options to pay a calculated amount, a custom amount, or the full amount.

Confirm the termination request details.
Clients may write a message here that will be shared with the contractor.
