About the Offboarding Process
Offboarding employees, whether by resignation or termination, is a complex legal process. Different jurisdictions have different requirements with respect to employee offboarding. Deel will always comply with local requirements when completing an offboarding request.
For more information about local offboarding requirements please log in to Deel to see our Terminations Landscape Guide.
Under the terms of the Master Services Agreement (MSA), Deel requires 30 days' notice when initiating a termination. In some cases, such as termination during the probation period, Deel may process the termination request in less than 30 days.
As the employer of record, Deel will carefully review all the facts and circumstances. In certain situations, Deel may advise the client of the need to adjust the request including the desired termination date in order to comply with local legal requirements to ensure a lawful termination.
Deel acts in accordance with country-specific rules while handling contract termination and communication with the employee. Please do not notify the employee of the intention to terminate their employment agreement.
A local HR expert will guide the client through the termination process and act as the primary point of contact. In the event of complex terminations, the process may be managed by Deel’s Legal Group and the Deel contact.
Initiating an Offboarding Request
✅ Step 1 – Select the employee to be terminated
Select the People icon on the home page, from the All People tab, and click on the employee's name to open the summary page.
Then click View Agreement in the top Contracts/Agreements section.
✅ Step 2 - Request to End Contract

Click Request a contract ending.
Clients must choose whether the offboarding is an employee resignation or a termination.
We won’t communicate with the employee until the termination details are finalized.
✅ Step 3 - Share details of the termination request
When initiating the request, Deel will ask the client to provide the following information regarding the termination:
- the reason
- whether the employee has been informed
- any relevant or supporting documentation
- a desired offboarding date
- confirmation of used leaves
- desired severance and other entitlements
Clients must provide all details relevant to the offboarding request. Please log in to Deel to see our Termination Landscape Guide for information about local laws and regulations for termination.
Please share any relevant documentation including evidence of alleged wrongdoing, performance management plans and reviews, attendance information, and all other documentation necessary to support the request.
For some countries, there's an additional step wherein the client will be asked to provide additional information for the termination request. The questions in that step are specific to each country and answers must be provided in order to submit the request.
Deel will contact the client if additional information is required.
Please note that due to local laws and requirements, it may be necessary to adjust the desired contract end date.
✅ Step 4 - Submit the request
Click Submit to confirm the request.
Deel has received the request! Deel will review the details of it and follow up shortly to begin the termination process.
If the client has additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact the account manager and we'll be happy to assist.
✅ Step 5 - Track the status of the request
Clients can track the progress of the request from the employee's profile in the Contract End section.

FAQs
[ACCORDION] How long do EOR employees have access to their Deel account after termination?
EOR employees who have been terminated will retain access to their Deel account indefinitely. Deel user accounts are not tied to employment - they remain available even after a contract or employment relationship ends. This ensures that users still have access to their work records and important documents (tax information, payslips, invoices, etc).
It's free to keep the Deel account, and workers can use it for future contracts and employment opportunities. It is important that employees set their account email to a personal address so that they don't lose access to their account after a contract ends. Please reach out to Deel support anytime for assistance updating the email address on the Deel account.
[ACCORDION] Why can't the client discuss with the employee details about an upcoming termination?
As the employer of record, Deel is responsible for terminating the EOR employee.
Different jurisdictions have different rules with respect to employee privacy and protection. Premature communication with the employee - including casual conversations about reasons or motives - could reduce the termination options available, or risk having the termination challenged as unfair or unlawful in court.
Deel will work with the client to determine the most viable strategy and advise on any communication requirements or limits.
[ACCORDION] Can the client review the separation agreement?
If requested, the client will have an opportunity to review the separation agreement prior to its execution with the employee.
[ACCORDION] When will employees receive their final pay, severance, or other entitlements?
Employees will receive their final pay, severance, and other entitlements as part of our standard payroll cycle and in accordance with all local laws. In many jurisdictions, this may be either the last day of the month in which the legal notice period or employment ends or the next scheduled payday.
In cases of mutually negotiating termination agreements, the terms of payment will form part of the agreement.
