When you add a new bank account or update your existing bank details in Deel, we send a small test deposit to confirm the account is valid before your salary is paid into it. This process is called a penny test. It only takes a couple of minutes to complete and helps prevent payment errors.

How the penny test works
Step 1 – Add or update your bank account
- In your Deel profile, select your payment settings.
- Add a new bank account or update your existing bank details.
- Deel automatically sends a small test deposit to your account.
Step 2 – Check your bank statement
- Wait for the test payment to arrive. Timing depends on your country's payment processing system.
- Check your bank statement for a small deposit (typically under $1).
Step 3 – Verify the test payment in Deel
- Go to your Deel profile and select Verify Test Payment.
- Enter the exact amount from your bank statement.
- Click Submit to complete verification.
Note: Don't share the test amount with anyone else - you need to check your own bank statement to find it.
How long it takes
Timing depends on how payments are processed in your country.
- Most countries: The test payment is sent right away.
- Some countries: Test payments are processed once a week, so it may take a few extra days to arrive.
If you haven't received your test deposit after a few business days, check with your bank first. If your bank confirms nothing was received, contact Deel support.
Frequently Asked Questions
[ACCORDION] What happens if I enter the wrong amount?
If the amount you enter doesn't match what we sent, the verification fails. Remove your bank details and re-add them to trigger a new test.
[ACCORDION] Will an unverified account stop my salary from being paid?
No. A missing or pending penny test verification won't block your salary payment. The test is an extra safety check, not a requirement for payment.
[ACCORDION] How many times can I update my bank details?
You can add or edit your bank account up to five times per month.
[ACCORDION] Will my employer be notified if my verification fails?
No, your employer isn't notified if your verification fails.
