About the Offboarding Process
Offboarding employees, whether by resignation or termination, is a complex legal process. Different jurisdictions have different requirements with respect to employee offboarding. Deel will always comply with local requirements when completing an offboarding request.
For more information about local offboarding requirements please log in to Deel to see our Terminations Landscape Guide.
Under the terms & conditions, Deel requires 30 days' notice when initiating an employee termination.
As the employer of record, Deel will carefully review all the facts and circumstances. In certain situations, Deel may advise the client of the need to adjust the request including the desired termination date in order to comply with local legal requirements to ensure a lawful termination.
Deel acts in accordance with country-specific rules while handling contract termination and communication with the employee. Please do not notify the employee of the intention to terminate their employment agreement.
A local HR expert will guide the client through the termination process and act as the primary point of contact. In the event of complex terminations, the process may be managed by Deel’s Legal Group and the Deel contact.
Clients must provide all details relevant to the offboarding request. Please share any relevant documentation, including evidence of alleged wrongdoing, performance management plans and reviews, attendance information, and all other documentation necessary to support the request.
For some countries, there's an additional step wherein the client will be asked to provide additional information for the termination request. The questions in that step are specific to each country and answers must be provided in order to submit the request.
Deel will contact the client if additional information is required.
Please note that due to local laws and requirements, it may be necessary to adjust the desired contract end date.
Initiating a Termination Request

Select the People Icon, and from the All People tab click on the employee who you want to terminate.

Clients must choose whether the offboarding is an employee resignation or a termination.
We won’t communicate with the employee until the termination details are finalized.
Please do not notify the employee until we have confirmed the termination request details.
✅ Step 2 – End the worker’s contract or profile in a way that fits your business needs

⚠️ Note: Reassigning responsibilities immediately prevents issues with time off approvals, expense approvals, and other workflows.

Frequently Asked Questions
[ACCORDION] Why can't the client discuss with the employee details about an upcoming termination?
As the employer of record, Deel is responsible for terminating the EOR employee.
Different jurisdictions have different rules with respect to employee privacy and protection. Deel will work with the client to determine the most viable strategy and advise on any communication requirements or limits.
[ACCORDION] When will employees receive their final pay, severance, or other entitlements?
Employees will receive their final pay, severance, and other entitlements as part of our standard payroll cycle and in accordance with all local laws.
