What is a Direct Employee-Payroll?
What is a Direct Employee-Payroll?
When an employer hires their employees using Deel's Global Payroll product, it means that the employer has created a legal entity and has hired their employees directly. This employee type is known on the platform as Direct Employee - Payroll.
Under this model, Deel runs the organization’s payroll but does not serve as the legal employer of record.
Our job is to process payroll and deliver payslips on time once the employer submits and approves a payroll package. If the country mandates end-of-year tax documentation, we will also send those forms to the employee.
Where available, the employer may allow Deel to pay employees directly on their behalf. However, in some countries this is not a compliant option and the employer will pay their employees directly from their bank while we provide detailed documentation.
Creating a Deel Account
First-time users will be able to follow the link in their welcome email to create a Deel account.
Click Activate Account to get started!
After signing up and successfully logging in, employees will be brought to their account home page.
They will be prompted to submit additional details to complete their profile and verify the account.
To complete the onboarding checklist, employees must submit personal details, add banking information, and upload compliance documents.
EOR Employees who migrated to Global Payroll must select the Direct Employee - Payroll account type from their avatar.
Each employee's compliance document checklist will include the Employee Agreement, bank details for direct deposit, tax information, employee hire forms, and more.
Because banking details will be USD for the direct deposit, the account must be from a local bank in the same employment country.

FAQs
[ACCORDION] Do direct employees need a login for the Deel app?
We recommend that employees create a Deel account if possible. It makes accessing payslips and tax documents very easy. And, employees will have access to our wonderful Perks section!
But, many organizations have their own Human Resources Information Systems in place and may not offer the Deel platform to direct employees. In that case, the employer fills out all relevant information and Deel pushes the payslip to the HRIS system, for employees to download.
[ACCORDION] Do employees have to handle taxes?
Deel is able to handle all payments on required taxes to the relevant authorities.
Deel can calculate tax contributions for both employee and employer based on local laws and regulations. Additionally, we register and de-register employment with the government on behalf of the employer, where required.
If the country mandates end-of-year tax documentation, we will ship those forms to the employee.
We do not do personal tax filings or personal tax returns.
[ACCORDION] What if an employee is not fully onboarded before the country's payroll cut off date?
If the employee is not fully onboarded on time, then it may be necessary to push their start date forward and delay their first payday.
[ACCORDION] Can an employee change their employment country if they move?
Once a Global Payroll direct employee contract has been created, neither the employee nor the employer can change the employment country on the Deel platform.

[ACCORDION] Will signing up on Deel have any impact on an employee's existing contract or salary?
No, the only difference is where employees will see payslips, documents, and notices on the Deel app.
