This article explains how EOR and PEO employees can request Time Off (PTO) days from their clients.
Clients will review all time off requests and confirm or deny the request, with additional optional feedback.
The employee's PTO entitlement depends on local legal requirements and their employment agreement.
In some jurisdictions the employees are required to submit additional documentation to Deel or to third parties for certain leaves, including sick leave.

PTO Leave Types
Deel supports different leave types. The employees can see their annual time off entitlement from the Time Off page in their employee account, and also how many days they have used so far in the current year.
Vacation: is employees' annual PTO (Paid Time Off). Employees can also review the statutory vacation policies for their country when logged into their account in the FAQ section.
Sick leave: is for illness that renders employees unable to work. In some jurisdictions, there are additional documentation requirements. Employees should review their local requirements carefully in the FAQ on their account.
Regional / Public holidays: are specific days in a country, state, or region when government offices, businesses, and schools are typically closed, and employees are entitled to take a day off with pay or receive special holiday pay rates if they work on those days. If employees don't see their regional holiday listed on the platform, they should select Other Leave and add a description of the holiday date they are taking.
Additional leave: these are leaves that are mandatory requirements for the employee's country based on compliance with the country's law. Whether these leaves are paid or unpaid depends on the country's rules. The employees can find out more details about their time-off policies by checking the “Time off policy details in country X”.
Other leave: is for other applicable paid and unpaid leave including carer leave, and civic responsibilities like jury duty etc.
How to Request Time Off
Employees can submit their leave requests directly in the app. Once submitted, these requests are forwarded to their manager for review and approval.
✅ Step 1 – Click on Request Time off button
From the Homepage, scroll to the Time off and public holidays card and click View all.

Employees can also access the Time Off page from the left sidebar. Select Workspace to expand it, then select Time off.

On the Time off page, click Request time off in the upper-right corner, next to Team calendar.

✅ Step 2 – Enter request details
In the Request time off dialog, select the leave Type, enter the required Start date, End date, and Add note details. Add an attachment if supporting documentation is required for the leave type or jurisdiction.
If requesting a long-term leave, they may enter an estimated return date.
Note that they will be asked to update the return date as the time approaches.
Additionally, they will need to enter the percentage of time they will be available during the selected period of long-term leave.
Deel automatically recognizes weekends and public holidays, and these days will not be deducted from the leave balance. Then click Submit.
If local jurisdiction permits it, employees can also request half-day time off on the platform by toggling this option.

✅ Step 3 – Wait for manager approval
A notification will be sent to the manager about the time off request.
Employees will receive an email when their request has been approved. They can review and track their leave requests and remaining leave balances from the Time off page at any time.
Employees can track the status of their time off request in the Time off requests section on the Your time off tab. Open Workspace in the left sidebar and select Time off to access the page.

If the section shows No time off requested yet, the request list loaded successfully but the employee does not currently have any submitted requests.
How to change a time off request
If employees need to amend or cancel a time-off request, they can do so directly from the Deel platform.
✅ Step 1 – Open your time off page
From the home page, scroll down and click View all in the Time off and public holidays section.
Employees can also access the Time Off page by selecting Workspace in the left sidebar and then the Time off option.
On the Your time off tab, locate the Time off requests section. It lists requests and their statuses. If it shows No time off requested yet, there is no request available to edit or cancel.
✅ Step 2 – Click Edit to make changes to your request
Select the eligible time off request that needs to be amended, then click Edit. Employees can modify the available request details, such as the start date, end date, or note.
They can also select Cancel to withdraw the leave request when that action is available.
Click Submit after making the changes.
The actions available for a request can depend on its status and the organization’s policy.

[ACCORDION] Can time off be edited after it has been approved?
Yes, employees can modify any future-dated leave requests even after they have been approved.

[ACCORDION] Can an employee have a negative leave balance?
This depends on the country the employee is employed in. In most cases, it is possible with the employee's manager's approval.
Approved leave requests in excess of the available PTO balance will take the employee into a negative leave balance.
The manager can see when a leave request will take the employee beyond their available allowance and can still approve it.
However, a negative leave balance may result in an adjustment of final pay in the event of termination or resignation.
Please let the manager know if the employee wants to take leave in excess of the available PTO balance.
