Different Leave Types
Deel supports three different leave types:
Vacation: is your annual PTO (Paid Time Off). You can see how many vacation days you have in the Time Off tab on the platform. You can view local vacation policies for your country on the platform FAQ.
Sick leave: is for illness that renders you unable to work. Details of your regional sick leave entitlements and documentation requirements can be found on the platform FAQ.
Other leave: is for other applicable paid and unpaid leave including parental leave, carer leave, and civic responsibilities like jury duty.
How to Book Time Off
You can submit your leave requests directly in the app. Once submitted, these requests are forwarded to your manager for review and approval.
✅ Step 1 – Click your contract card
Your contract card is accessible from the homepage of the Deel app.
✅ Step 2 – Click the Time Off tab.
✅ Step 3 – Select your leave type
Using the drop down menu, select your leave type:
Use Vacation for accrued Paid Time Off (PTO).
Use Sick Days for absences related to an illness. In some jurisdictions there are additional documentation requirements. Please review your local requirements carefully.
Use Other Leave for any other paid or unpaid leave provided by legislation or your employer.
Please note you do not need to submit leave requests for public holidays. This covers many types of leave such as a career break, adoption leave, and more. Select the leave type from the dropdown menu, or type your reason into the box.
Local requirements for each type of leave can be found in the employee FAQ on the Deel platform.

✅ Step 5 – Click Request Time Off to confirm.
A notification will be sent to your manager. You will receive an email when your request has been approved.

Frequently Asked Questions
If my leave request spans over a weekend, do I need to make two requests?
No, the system will only request time off for working days. It will not deduct more leave than it should if your time-off request spans over a weekend.
Do I need to make a leave request for public holidays?
No. The system automatically recognizes all local holidays. If you request leave over a public holiday, it will not be deducted from your holiday allowance.
Should I request ‘Sick leave’ for a medical appointment?
No. Select ‘Medical appointment’ under the ‘Other leave’ option.
Can I request half days?
Only some jurisdictions permit half-day paid leave. For details on your local rules and requirements, please refer to the platform FAQ.
Can I edit a time-off request?
Yes, you can change a time-off request in the Time Off tab by clicking on your request, then editing it.
Can I edit a time-off request after it’s been approved?
You can modify any future-dated PTO request even after it’s been approved. You can also edit past time off requests and they’ll go back to your manager for approval with an ‘Updated’ note. If you need assistance modifying or correcting leave you have already taken, please contact support.
How much PTO do I have?
You can view your PTO balance from the Time Off tab in your contract on the Deel platform.
Can I go into a negative leave balance?
Approved leave requests in excess of your available PTO balance would take you into a negative leave balance. Your manager is able to see when your request is more than your allowance, but they can still approve it. We suggest communicating with your manager in the event that you wish to take leave in excess of your available PTO balance.
Please note that a negative leave balance may result in an adjustment of your final pay in the event of termination or resignation.
