This article explains how to duplicate contracts for Independent Contractors.
This is a useful feature if you want to create multiple contacts with the same or similar terms and conditions like title, job scope, rates of pay, invoice schedule, and contracting entity or group.
After duplicating the contract you will have the option of confirming or updating certain contract details.
Before you begin:
- You must be a Client Admin or Group Admin with permission to view the contractor’s profile and manage contracts.
- Select a contractor with at least one Active contract. A worker marked No active contracts cannot be used for this workflow.
- Use a contract currency that complies with the worker's tax residence. For example, US tax residents must have contracts in USD.
✅ Step 1 - Select a Contract to Duplicate
In the left sidebar, click People to expand the menu, then click Directory.

Use Directory search to find the contractor. Confirm that Worker type is Contractor and Worker status is Active. Do not select a worker marked No active contracts.

Click the active contractor’s name to open their profile. In the profile’s left-side navigation, click Contracts.

On the contract details page, verify that the contract status is Active. Click the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner, next to Download contract PDF.

Select Duplicate contract. Do not select Schedule termination, which is a separate action in the same menu.

The Duplicate contract modal opens at Step 1 of 3.
✅ Step 2 - Create new profile
In the Duplicate contract modal, complete the Personal email, Legal first name, Legal last name, and Worker’s tax residence.
Complete the Contract name, Contract start date, Group, and Entity. Click Next to define the first payment date.

✅ Step 3 - Enter payment details
Choose the first payment date and review the effective date, invoice cycle, and payment-due settings.
Click Duplicate Contract to continue.
✅ Step 4 - Review and sign
You or another Group Admin can review and sign the contract, and invite your contractor to do the same.
You also have the option of delegating the client signature to another Group Admin or switching the signing order so that your contractor signs first.
Caution: If the contract currency does not match the contractor's tax residence, a validation error appears. Update the currency to match the tax residence—for example, USD for US tax residents—before proceeding.
FAQ
[ACCORDION] Can someone else sign the contract that I created?
Clients can sign contracts (agreements) themselves or have someone else sign on their behalf through a process known as delegate signing. You can invite any team member with Group Admin Access in Deel to sign as your delegate. If your chosen delegate does not have a Deel account, you can invite them to sign as an external delegate.
Your invitation to sign the contract as a delegate will be sent as an email via the Deel platform. Once the client signature is completed by you or your delegate, you can invite the contractor to sign and activate the contract.
More details on this process is available in the Delegate Signing Help Center article.
For more details on Group Admins and what they're permitted and unable to do, see this Help Center article on the different roles for group managers.
[ACCORDION] Will the contractor be notified when I duplicate their contract?
No. The contractor is only notified once the new duplicated contract is sent for their signature.
[ACCORDION] Can I change details after I duplicate the contract?
Yes. All contract fields can be edited in the review step before sending the contract for signature.
