Overview
Agentic Workflows is Deel's next generation of workflow automation. It works like the workflows you already know: a trigger starts the workflow, conditions control the logic, and actions carry out the work. It adds one new capability: an AI agent step that can read context, make a judgment, generate content, and decide what happens next.
You'll find Agentic Workflows in Deel under Apps & Automation → Agentic workflows. Legacy Workflows live in the same place, so you can build both types of automation side by side, using the same building blocks.
How Agentic Workflows differ from Legacy Workflows
Legacy Workflows follow fixed rules: when X happens, do Y. This works well for straightforward automations like welcome emails or task assignments.
Agentic Workflows do everything Legacy Workflows do, and add an AI agent step you can drop into a workflow to handle tasks that used to need a person to think them through. For example, an agent can:
- Generate documents: draft a compliance letter, summary, or attestation automatically.
- Validate and verify data: check information for errors or gaps before anything is processed.
- Route intelligently: decide who should approve something based on its content or risk.
- Analyze compliance: check location-specific requirements before a workflow continues.
- Flag anomalies: spot unusual patterns, for example in payroll or compensation, and raise them for review.
Triggers, filters, branches, delays, and standard actions (email, Slack, tasks, documents, and more) work the same way in both. For the full list, see the Workflow Builder: Trigger, Condition, and Action Glossary.
When to use each
Use Legacy Workflows when the automation is simple and rule-based:
- Send a welcome email when someone is hired.
- Assign a checklist task.
- Notify a manager on Slack when an approval is needed.
Use Agentic Workflows when the automation needs judgment, content, or checks:
- A time off request that needs policy validation and a generated compliance document.
- Payroll that needs a data check and smart approval routing before it runs.
- Onboarding that adapts based on role, location, or compliance requirements.
You don't have to choose one for everything. You can use both, and pick the right tool for each workflow.
What this means for your existing workflows
- Nothing breaks. Your existing Legacy Workflows keep running as they are. You don't need to do anything.
- No forced migration. When Agentic Workflows reach full feature parity with Legacy Workflows, Deel will migrate your existing workflows for you, with no disruption expected.
- No extra cost. Agentic Workflows are included in your Deel plan.
